  1. Take care of yourself

    1. Care for your Children or other defendants and stay healthy.

  2. Verify Home is safe

    1. Turn off Utilities

    2. Proceed with extreme caution.

    3. Rescue any valuables and important documents

    4. Protect from further damage


If your Home is Lost...

  1. Set up your mail

    1. Contact the post office to get a PO Box to forward you mail or forward to relative in area unaffected. Forward here OR PO Box here

  2. Contact your landlord or mortgage lender

    1. Give them the best way to contact you.

  3. Alert your credit card company

    1. Prepare them for unusual upcoming expenses or lost cards.

  4. Find Immediate Shelter if needed

    1. This can be done through your local community, family and friends but there are no other options please fill out this survey to help coordinate temporary housing.

  5. Call your Homeowner/Rental Insurance company -

    1. To file any claims

  6. Sign up for help

  7. Save your receipts

  8. Let friends and family know your status

  9. Follow important municipal social media accounts

  10. Start searching for long-term rentals/housing

  11. List your losses

    1. Make an itemize list of each belonging you've lost and replacement cost. It may be easiest to list by room. Smartphone list may be good choice to save this list and allow for easy edits.

  12. Alert your utility companies

    1. You may need to cancel or freeze your services

  13. Call other insurance carriers as needed

  14. Replace essential documents

    1. Driver's license, Auto Registration, Bankbooks, Insurance policies, Military discharge papers, Passports, Birth death and marriage certificates etc.
